Why John is Fond of His Compaq C500

Compaq Presario C500
There are so many choices today of laptops, netbooks and personal computers. Along with these choices come a wide variety of prices. The idea that spending less on a laptop means less satisfaction for the buyer is not necessarily true. I bought a cheap laptop almost a year ago and have been more than happy with it.

After searching online and in stores for an affordable laptop, I located a Compaq Presario C500 for $500 (*Note - You can pick up a refurbished C500 today for $250 on Google Shopping.*) The computer offers a 120 GB hard drive and runs on Windows Vista.

While many people think Vista as an operating system is problematic, I have had nothing but success with it and after getting over my initial apprehension, I can now say that I truly enjoy using Vista.

There was one occasion when I bought software that was not compatible with Vista, but a quick downloaded patch remedied this situation. Most software is increasingly being manufactured to be compatible with Vista, so this operating system was not an issue for me.

Some of the other positive aspects of the Compaq Presario aside from its affordable price are its accompanying software package that includes Microsoft Office 2007, its fast operation speed and its 15.4 inch screen. The large screen is great for watching videos, movies or online content.

While I enjoy the larger screen, this may be seen as a drawback for some people who prefer laptops of a more compact size. For example, when I was on a plane recently, I discovered that the fully-open laptop barely fit in the tiny space that was allotted on the tray table in front of me.

For travelers who take their laptops everywhere, the weight of the Compaq Presario—at a little over 5 pounds—is heavier than some of the newer, slimmer laptops. This is something to consider if weight and compact size is important to you.

I thought that a basic laptop such as this would not be a good computer for gaming, but I was wrong. The graphics look excellent, especially with the large screen, and the running speed is optimal.

I also use this laptop for streaming music, viewing DVDs and burning CDs, all of which this model of computer does very well.

The one drawback of the Compaq Presario C500 is the memory size of 1024 MB. This suited my needs since I am primarily using the laptop for word processing and streaming media. But those who are looking for a laptop for the purposes of downloading and storing media may want to consider other options.

Overall I am extremely happy with the purchase of my Compaq C500. I have had it for almost a year and find that it still runs very fast and serves its purpose wonderfully. I would recommend this laptop for anyone who is searching for an affordable machine.
