An Overview of Lenovo's Ideapad s10-2 Netbook

A pink Lenovo Ideapad S10-2
The S10-2 was deliberately geared toward traveling light with quick, hassle-free Internet access. The chassis is a slick, smooth design, a definite step up from the previous Ideapad S10's sharper edges and some would say cobbled-together appearance. It takes up fairly little space on the whole, and has the look of a very professional entry into the netbook market.

Priced in the $299 to $400 range depending on choice of features, the S10-2 clearly offers a solid hardware package for the investment.
The glossy display is a 10.1" model (referring to the 10 in S10), and it comes with the standard 1G, 1066MHz ram. The hard drive starts at 160Gb and 5400 rpm, and wireless access is provided by a Broadcom 802.11G rated WLAN. The standard battery offering is a 3-cell variety, but Lenovo offers an upgraded 6-cell variant as well, which boosts battery life to approximately five and a half to 6 hours depending on usage.

Processor choices are between the 1.6 GHz N270 Intel Atom CPU and the Atom N280 with 1.66 GHz. Bluetooth is optional. The S10-2 comes with Dolby sound, speakers on the bottom and audio jacks on the side. Also available are 3 USB ports, SDHC multi-card and open internal mini-PCIe slots, LAN and VGA. All models carry Windows XP Home Edition and a wireless signal switch.

In a report from liliputing.com, the reviewer was impressed by Lenovo's OneKey Recovery software. This is a useful tool to backup and restore your data from within Windows to its factory default settings. Very handy if your system contracts a stubborn trojan horse or virus that can't be removed by traditional malware removers like AVG, Malwarebytes, Avast...Or a stick of dynamite :) etc.

On the downside one of the the chaps at Lilputing was less than impressed with the typing interface which they describe as - "One of the smallest keyboards I’ve found on any netbook with a 10 inch display". Ahem.....moving swiftly on.......

Overall the S10-2 is a solid little machine. It performs well for a netbook in its class, looks great and takes up very little space, but if you're a novelist and want to use the S10 to crank out your next masterpiece, the S10-2's cramped keyboard may be one to avoid.
