Student Laptop? - The Dell Inspiron 1545 |
![]() |
Coming from a family that is highly devoted to Apple computers, I was a little worried when I first purchased the Inspiron 1545. As a college student, I found this Dell laptop to be one of the few cheap options available with the specifications I desired. I purchased this cherry red Dell for $548.99 (including delivery) on Dell's website, after reading generally positive reviews. Most of the complaints involved customer service, but my University has a great computer service that is happy to solve students' technology problems at no cost. |

So far, I have been very happy with the Dell Inspiron 1545. At 15.6 inches and only 5.8 pounds, it is an adequate size for me to carry back and forth between classes. I could have gone for something lighter, but I dislike the small screens of ultraportables and netbooks. With an Intel Pentium 2.2GHz Dual-Core T4500 processor and the newly updated Microsoft 7 operating system, the laptop runs quite smoothly. The 1545's 3GB of RAM and 320 GB of hard disc are more than enough for me to visit sites like Youtube and Facebook, run software quickly like Itunes, and store essential documents and downloads. The laptop comes with a webcam and Skype, which I use frequently to keep in touch with friends attending distant schools and traveling abroad. I have had few problems with the Dell Inspiron 1545. My one complaint is that the laptop has a battery life of about two and a half hours, which is pretty low. A longer battery life would allow me to check my email between classes without having to waste time booting up the computer or carrying the power back around. In general, I have been pleased with the Inspiron 1545. Simple and efficient, this laptop computer is perfect for students or professionals looking for a basic notebook with which to surf the internet, play basic games and type up Word documents.
