Review of MSI's U100 Notebook With 10 Inch Screen

MSI Wind u100 Notebook
Back in December 2008 my Toshiba Satellite, that had given sterling service for over 5 years began to flag. I decided it was time to buy a new laptop. But as I looked online for the latest models I came across a new range of computers called netbook notebooks. The portability of these machines appealed. After much research, looking at models by Acer, and Dell and Samsung, I was drawn to the MSI Wind U100 which seemed to have a plethora of great reviews.

I looked at the price on Amazon, just £329.99, and thought if MSI are so confident in their product that they are willing to offer a 2 year guarantee it was time to swipe the mastercard. When my MSI wind U100 arrived a few days later it was black with a 1GB hard drive, 160GB hard drive, a built in webcam, Bluetooth and 3 usb ports.
It also came with a free, useful yet otherwise unremarkable white bag. The 10 inch screen did make my eyes a little tired after long use, but connecting the U100 via the built in VGA out port to a 19 inch Acer monitor sorted that out.

Since then I've had 9 months of trouble free usage. The drive comes partitioned into a drive C with the Windows XP operating system taking up 39 GB. This was very handy when my system was taken down by a virus. I was able to reboot the machine, and do a fresh install of windows straight from the partitioned hard drive.

I recommend the MSI U100 netbook, the design is minimalistic, critics would say bland but that doesn't concern me. I've used it for composing music (attached M-Audio studio monitors), surfing the web, graphic manipulation and playing football manager 2009. The 1600Mhz atom processor handled these tasks well. In the UK the price has dropped almost 80 quid since I first bought it. In the U.S you can find deals around $275 which I believe is a bargain.
