Rachel Reviews Her Compaq Presario CQ60-211DX |
![]() |
I recently found a Compaq Presario CQ60-211DX laptop on sale for $299.99 at a local big box store. I had needed a new computer for quite some time and after reading the specifications found that what I would be getting for the money was too good to pass up. One of the things I immediately liked about this laptop was that it had a full sized keyboard including a full ten-key pad on the right side. Most laptop keyboards are undersized and make typing, especially as much typing as I do, a real headache at times. On my CQ60-211DX I have found that I can type for extended periods comfortably. |

The Compaq CQ60-211DX comes with a feature set not often found on a sub-$300.00 computer. My laptop came with a 2.16 GHz Intel Celeron Processor sporting a 1MB cache, a 160 GB hard drive, 2 GB of DDR2 memory and a SuperMulti 8X DVD±R/RW drive with Double Layer Support. It also came with the 4500M Intel Graphics Media Accelerator and built-in speakers. Overall it's performed very well for a machine that costs under $300.00. I have experienced no issues using Windows 7 with all the eye candy enabled, and it runs great dual booting the Ubuntu Netbook Remix along with it. The wireless is reliable and solid on most occasions and the graphics processor performs well for basic tasks like watching Youtube videos and DVDs. The Presario CQ-211DX is not a powerhouse by any standard, and you will not be playing Crysis on it even at the lowest graphics settings, but as a functional and inexpensive laptop for most everyday computing needs it is hard to beat. I do, however, have two somewhat minor complaints about the CQ-211DX that are probably more down to personal preference than anything else. First is the screen, while it is clear, bright and at a decent 1366 x 768 resolution gives good picture quality, it has a glossy finish to it which can make it difficult to view in certain situations with lots of ambient light. The second issue is the case, while it looks nice and sports a stylish carbon fiber type finish, it too has a glossy sheen which tends to show finger prints and smudges. A minor point to be sure but if you are into aesthetics it is something to consider. All in all the Compaq CQ-211DX is a well appointed laptop at an excellent price point. I would highly recommend it to anyone in the market for a new affordable machine.
